At Sequoia Mental Health Services, our greatest asset is our people. We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every employee feels valued and empowered. We celebrate and embrace the rich array of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences that our team members bring to our organization. This includes diversity in age, race, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other unique characteristics.
Sequoia has made great strides towards diversifying staff over the last three years. We have prioritized ensuring that we hire qualified staff no matter their positionality to guarantee that our clients receive care from a provider that yields a safe and comfortable environment for them. We also aim to support our staff in better understanding the complexities of culture and the effect it has on client’s response to treatment.
Sequoia has prioritized diversity in several ways:
- Trainings: Sequoia begins diversity trainings in onboarding by offering classes such as “Cultural Awareness”
- Trainings for all staff on microaggressions and unconscious bias
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI) made up of staff from various backgrounds, that offers guidance to executive staff on diversity topics
We are excited about the progress we have made in the last few years, but we will always have room to grow. We know how essential it is to have representation at every level of our organization. Sequoia acknowledges and encourages potential candidates for employment to apply if they meet qualifications for a position via life experience, education, work experience, or a combination of the three.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee are currently collaborating with the Executive team to help guide us in our efforts. Sequoia has increased the DEI budget to help fund new initiatives developed by the DEI committee. We will continue to research and develop new ways to seek out qualified individuals from all backgrounds and focus on ways to help every staff member at Sequoia feel heard, seen and valued for their contributions.
